Allergens

According to the EPA there are up to 25 million people in the US affected by allergy and asthma related problems. Most of these are directly related to air born allergens they come in contact with at work, school or home.

What are allergens?

Allergens are microscopic organisms that float around in interior air in the home or workplace. These organisms can trigger perennial rhinitis in humans. Pollen allergy and asthma are symptoms produced by this pollutant. Some organisms continue tothrive even in the coldest months.

Biological antigens can be biological or chemical. Research by the EPA has shown that dust mites, cockroaches, mice, pet dander, mold, second hand smoke and nitrogen dioxide all are capable of Producing an allergic attack.  Eyes, nose, throat irritation, fatigue and breathing are all affected.

Asthma can be controlled!

Asthma can be controlled with a plan that includes identifying triggers that cause the attacks. Air born allergens cause more missed workdays and school days than any other illness. Physical activity is usually limited. Small children and the elderly are affected with breathing difficulties. Healthy Home Inspections can help to identify the triggers that set off the asthma attacks. By knowing What the triggers are, they can then be remove and eliminated.

We also recommend the patient complete an Asthma Environmental Checklist that provides important information about bedding, sleeping arrangements, flooring, carpets and moisture control. This Information along with our inspection report will give their physician important input in treating the patient, and helping them on their way toward a healthier active life.

Asthma Triggers

Asthma triggers are commonly found in homes, schools, and offices and include mold, dust mites, secondhand smoke, and pet dander. A home may have mold growing on a shower curtain, dust mites in pillows, blankets or stuffed animals, secondhand smoke in the air, and cat and dog hairs on the carpet or floors.  Other common asthma triggers include some foods and pollutants in the air.

Asthma triggers cause symptoms including coughing, chest tightness, wheezing, and breathing problems. An asthma attack occurs when symptoms keep getting worse or are suddenly very severe. Asthma attacks can be life threatening.  Asthma is controllable with the right medicines and by reducing asthma triggers.
